CAN DO, the economic development organization serving Greater Hazleton, honored the Pennsylvania CareerLink Hazleton as its Partner of the Year during CAN DO's annual dinner on June 4.
CAN DO President and CEO Kevin O'Donnell said, "Our partners at the Pennsylvania CareerLink of Hazleton, share in this mission. Site Administrator Christine Jensen and her staff have always been instrumental in so many ways in helping the existing businesses and industries in our parks with many of their staffing needs, but more relevant to this award, in partnering with CAN DO as we work together to provide prospective businesses with the workforce information they need to make a location decision."
PA CareerLink Hazleton, which is one of three Career Link offices overseen by the Luzerne/Schuylkill Workforce Investment Board, manages hundreds of in-house recruitment events with local employers each year and conducts skills assessments using the nationally-recognized WorkKeys program to measure basic foundational skill levels in potential employees and assess if they have the necessary traits employers are looking for in their available positions.
The CareerLink also provides some reimbursement to companies for hiring and training eligible and skilled individuals who are unemployed or under-employed through federally-funded programs like the On-the-Job Training program and the Summer Internship program.
